How to improve Ben 10?

Ben 10 is a cartoon show owned by Cartoon Network and created by Man of Action. It is a show centered on a kid who got the Omnitrix, an alien device that can transform its user into alien beings, and becomes a hero. It did pretty well in its starting, but declined at the end. Hi, I'm the Researcher and I'm gonna be tracing why Ben 10 went wrong.

Ben 10 Classic was a huge success to Cartoon Network. It had almost zero flaws. It's still considered the best by many fans. Some years later, Ben 10 Alien Force, a continuation of the Ben 10 Classic came into picture. This series was centered around a 15 year old Ben Tennyson who is yet to witness terror of aliens on Earth, and the universe. Season 1 and 2 were almost perfect. Their plot was simple, alien species called Highbreeds lost fertility, therefore they couldn't survive for long, so they decided to wipe out life from entire galaxy. Season 3 however was criticized as characters have become a lot immature and uninteresting. All the character development was simply ignored. In fact, the season made Ben look hero while Gwen and Kevin his sidekick. It wasn't like that in Season 1 and 2.

Ben 10 Alien Force left Ben getting Ultimatrix, another version of the Omnitrix that has the power to evolve its aliens. It did lack some features though. This is where Ben 10 Ultimate Alien begins with Ben weilding the Ultimatrix. Ben is 16 now. His identity is revealed. Ben 10 Ultimate Alien had a better story-telling. Stories were interesting and relatable. The problem was its direction, for example the fights could have been more interesting.

As Ben 10 Ultimate Alien ends, it gives Ben a new and perhaps, the official Omnitrix, on which Azmuth worked since he gave Ben the prototype Omnitrix six years ago. This is where Ben 10 Omniverse begins with Ben having adventures through multiverse and his own universe with the new and official Omnitrix. The problem with this series was that Ben acted too immature and stupid, after getting back to mature in Ben 10 Ultimate Alien. The Network believed that making Ben immature could increase the ratings, because Ben 10 Classic's Ben acted immature and got good ratings. Besides negative stuff, Ben 10 Omniverse had a pretty good graphics. Animations were dynamic. In fact, Ben did acted mature and responsible in certain episodes, but still was less than expected.

Since Ben 10 Omniverse was the worst of all series that had come, Cartoon Network decided to reboot Ben 10. That's how the original continuity stopped forever.

Out of the entire Ben 10 franchise, my personal favorite is Ben 10 Ultimate Alien. It's so because it had good amount of character development, growth, emotion, solid story-telling, etc. The characters were realistic and interesting, for example Ultimate Kevin. The main flaw of the series is its direction.

Here's how I would've made Ben 10 series, if I would've received an opportunity to be a part of it:

  1. Ben's immaturity is understandable in Ben 10 Alien Force (season 3) because he has saved a galaxy, so certain amount of ego is obvious. However, I would later make him realize what it means to be a hero, and that ego is not a part of one.
  2. I would not make Gwen and Ben a sidekick of Ben. They would be good enough to protect themselves from many kind of threats. In Ben 10 Alien Force's Season 3's episode 1, Gwen and Kevin needed help from Ben to defeat Serpent; however in my opinion, he must be very easy to defeat by Gwen and Kevin as they are Plumbers and are well trained to catch a normal alien criminal (not Vilgax though, because he's not a normal alien criminal. He's a crime lord). Plus, they have superpowers too.
  3. Uninteresting villains like Serpent, Wreedle mother, etc. will be removed.
  4. Wreedle brothers would be comedy characters, not villains.
  5. Uninteresting and boring episodes like Fools Gold, etc. won't be showed.
  6. Plumbers wouldn't be afraid of a normal criminal like Wreedle mother as they can easily shoot her with blasters. She doesn't appear menacing for an inter-galactic police force to be afraid of.
  7. Character's behaviour and actions must be realistic.
