Why "Spider-Man 3" is the BEST Spider-Man movie?
Spider-Man 3 is an American superhero movie released in 2007, based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man. Directed by Sam Raimi, this movie centers around Peter Parker who bonds with the Venom symbiote, affecting his psyche. The movie received $894.9 million box office.
Besides earning so much money, the movie received many critics too. They say that the plot is so much messed up that makes it one of the worst superhero movies of all time. Is that true? Hi, I'm the Researcher and I'm gonna be tracing Spider-Man 3 from start to the end.
Plot:
The movie's plot is complicated. Harry is trying to take revenge from Peter, turning himself into the New Goblin. Meanwhile, Flint Marko (Sandman) is revealed as Uncle Ben's true killer. He visits his sick daughter, while the police is after him. He runs from the police which leads him towards a particle accelerator, which ultimately transforms him into Sandman.
When the secret of Uncle Ben's true killer is revealed to Peter, he gets furious. After he accidently bonds with the Venom symbiote that fell from space creating the black-suit, his psyche takes a turn. He gets even madder. He attempts to kill Sandman, by trying to wash him with water. However Sandman managed to survive.
At the Daily Bugle, Peter's new rival photographer Eddie Brock, portrays Spider-Man as a criminal in his photos. Peter humiliated him in front of everybody, demanding to reject the pictures as they are fake. When seen carefully, it was clear that the pictures were made from some kind of studio. J.J. Jameson fired Brock and also issued an apology from Spider-Man at the front of his newspaper.
When fused with the symbiote, at the beginning Peter was kind of show-offing jerk. But later, he starts becoming evil (for example trying to kill Sandman).
After a long journey of black-suited Spider-Man, Peter discovers what has happened to him. He rips off the suit. In the process, Eddie finds out the true identity of Spider-Man. When the symbiote leaves Peter's body, it gets Eddie Brock as its new host
Eddie Brock, armed with the superpowers, decides to take revenge from Peter. Teaming up with Sandman, he kidnaps Mary Jane in order to force Peter to come and save her.
When Peter figures it out, he asks help from Harry, but he denied. Therefore Peter fights the villains alone. However during the fight, Harry joins Peter after realizing that he never killed Norman. They fight and at the end Harry sacrifices himself to save Peter. Later, Peter kills the symbiote with Brock, and he forgives Sandman after he explains that he didn't kill Ben knowingly.
Mary Jane and Peter Parker's relationship had trembled, but at the end they grab each other's hand and shed tears on Harry's death, while dancing.
Why I LOVE Spider-Man 3?
I do admit the fact that the story is a bit complex than other movies. However still, it is easy to understand and perhaps, the story is quite interesting too. Here's are 10 reasons why I love Spider-Man 3:
1) Peter's tragic life
As Spider-Man 2 showed Peter's problems and burden, Spider-Man 3 didn't forget that part.
Peter's best friend Harry is attempting to kill him. Mary Jane breaks up with Peter, believing that he's trying to push her away.
As he bonds with the symbiote, the relationship barrier increases. This creates too much burden for Peter and MJ both. Until he realizes what's happened to him, it was too late. Yet, he apologizes her about everything, but as Harry wanted to make Peter pay, he insisted her leave him forever; to make Peter sadder. Harry's death at the end, is really stressing. Peter never got any time to explain his friend why did he beat him brutally, as that wasn't him. However, Harry never cared about that, he just asked him, "Are we still friends?"
Besides that, Peter is really stressed about Uncle Ben's killer who is moving freely around the city.
Among all of this, Peter got really depressed.
2) The Revelation
We never actually got to see someone shooting Uncle Ben. The backstory was covered in Spider-Man 3. It ties itself to the events from Spider-Man (2002).
Parker believed that Marko killed Ben on purpose. The mystery is very entertaining to me personally. In fact, Sandman being Ben's true killer is very interesting as it ties itself to Spider-Man (2002) and Sandman's emotional story arc.
3) The Black-Suit
First premiered in Secret Wars comic in 1984, the black-suit finally made its way to the big screen.
Black-suit is perhaps just a replica of the original costume, except that it is black in color, and oily in texture.
It's no ordinary suit, it's a living symbiote that enhances characteristics like angression, and makes one even stronger. Perhaps, it is not a coincidence that Peter managed to beat Harry hand-to-hand with ease. The black-suit increased his power.
When Peter bonds with the symbiote, his behavior changes dramatically. All of the his dark sides come true. Anger and power flow into his body. However, Peter still has conscience, which is why he rips off the suit.
Believe it or not, the black-suit looks badass. It absolutely fits on the evil version of Spider-Man.
4) The Fall
The greatest movies alawys remember to show their protagonist's rise. Spider-Man (2002) allowed Peter to become a hero, understand the meaning behind the words 'With great power, comes great responsibility'.
Spider-Man 2 encouraged Peter to realize that in order to do the right, sometimes you have to compromize your dreams.
However, Spider-Man 3 went another way. Spider-Man 3 showed a "fall", and then a "rise". Seeing our hero becoming evil, and then rising again is BADASS. That's what makes Spider-Man 3 so endearing, the fact that Peter has to battle a monster within, and rise again.
5) Sandman's story
Sandman's story carried so much emotional weight. He is just like any father who cannot see their children suffer. He is a kind man who loves his daughter.
Unlike villains like Green Goblin and Doc Ock, he doesn't want to hurt anyone. All he wants is a life; a life where he and his daughter can live in peace. Norman Osborn wasn't too good with his own son, but Sandman has proved himself worthy to be called a father, and indeed, a good human being.
Despite killing Uncle Ben (which happened by mistake), he really felt sorry. He commits his mistake. At the end, he says, "I'm not asking you to forgive me. I just want you to understand." Peter forgives him allowing him to go free, instead of turning him to the authorities.
The film's climax well enough portrays Sandman's tragedy. Here's a video:
6) Embracing the Green Goblin
The Green Goblin since the beginning, has been essential to Sam Raimi's Spider-Man series. Harry embracing the Green Goblin was VERY threatening. Goblin will always be one of the most menacing villains of all time, perhaps due to it's monstrous look and horror direction Sam Raimi gave him.
7) Venom
One of the most popular and well-known Spider-Man's foe, is the Venom. A photographer Eddie Brock bonds with the Venom symbiote, mutating himself into a giant bulky monster with extremely sharp teeth and slithering tongue. Today we have Tom Hardy who played Venom in the Sony's Venom (2018), and will reprise the role again in the upcoming Venom: Let There Be Carnage movie.
Topher Grace's Venom, contrary to Tom Hardy's, isn't bulky and doesn't has a slithering tongue. He has got web-pattern all over his body and shares similar powers as to Spider-Man. Tom Hardy's Venom however, did very good job at being comic accurate in terms of appearance.
Venom in Spider-Man 3 is menacing; only because Sam Raimi gave him a horror vibe. Honestly, his look is not so good. But besides that, he does really great job at keeping Venom's character alive, which is of course not the case with Tom Hardy's version. Grace's Venom is more villainious instead of being a decent guy like Hardy's Venom.
Still, I would leave that on you to decide if you like Spider-Man 3's Venom or not; feel free to comment.
8) J. Jonah Jameson, of course
An extremely silly editor of The Daily Bugle, J. Jonah Jameson is the core and the heart of comedy. Raimi got this character right.
J.K. Simmons was so PERFECT to play the "MOUSTACHOIED MAN", that he received the same role in Spider-Man: Far From Home. However, it doesn't feel like the future of MCU's JJJ is going to be as bright as that of the Raimi's version.
J. Jonah Jameson - I'll deal with the WALL-CRAWLING MENACE myself.
7) Spider-Man 3 was dark
Spider-Man 3 undoubtebly, is sort of more violent and showed the darker part of almost every character starting from Peter and Harry to Eddie Brock. It portrayed the feeling of revenge within them.
It's a movie full of mature scenes like horror, and mystery.
Why people hate Spider-Man 3?
Spider-Man 3 obviously flopped on "some" (not many though) levels, but in my opinion it is easily the best Spider-Man movie ever made.
Sony might have interfered in the production of Spider-Man 3, but still it is a Raimi movie. Elements like horror, the Raimi sense of comedy, and adversity is present in the movie. Raimi may not have wanted to add Venom, but still the direction of the movie is pretty much his own.
The reason I think people hate Spider-Man 3 is because they expected more, but it gave less. What you expect really matters. I expect more from MCU Spider-Man, however it doesn't give me that, so of course I would hate it right? It's totally understandable why people hate Spider-Man 3. But there're people like me who love Spider-Man 3 too; and that's why I thought in order to make their belief more rigid, let me explain certain points why Spider-Man 3 is a MASTERPIECE.
It's okay if someone hates Spider-Man 3. I appreciate your opinion and I am in full support.
